They later had three more children.
Lou was friend to all and served her Church. First Presbyterian Church of Hampton, faithfully for most of her adult life. Susan, Maria and Family: Even though she was in my neighborhood when I was a young child, I really got to know your Mom through bringing my parents to her/ your beautiful home to pick up newspapers for recycling. I quickly found why my parents, Susan Marshall and so many others loved her. The moment she saw our car she would literally sprint out of the house to make us welcome. Like my late Mom, she "thought young" and related perfectly to the "next generation" as well as to her own. She has to be as universally beloved as any parent I have known. Bless you all for allowing her to live out her years at home by "The Roads". Her warmth and kindness lives on in her children.

Dear Loukie and Hugh,

Bill and I send our sincere sympathy and prayers for you and the family.

I'm so sorry to know that your wonderful mother will no longer be with you on this earth, but you have the assurance of knowing that you will see her again as will anyone else who has accepted Christ as our Lord!

Loukie, even though we are church family, and we’ve talked a few times, I never knew who your family was until I was reading about your mother’s life. First of all I was surprised to read that like me, she was a nurse but most of all that the love of her life was your father, Dr. Gayle. Your father was such a wonderful, patient and kind man and doctor. I assisted him with many deliveries in the ‘70’s and 80’s at Mary Immaculate Hospital. I will never forget him and seeing him patiently wait for a new life to come into this world. I can see him now!

In His love,
Sherry Hensel Garcia Huycke

Dear Susan, Ann, Maria, Jeff and Loukie,

What wonderful times our families had together: trips on the Gay Maid, Fontana Dam, Cacapon State Park, cook outs, square dancing and many more which I will be remembering over the next few days. Your Mother was the last of our parents and with her goes another piece of my childhood. I have a lifetime of memories and images to enjoy.

A hug to each of you - let's plan a Maida-Gayle reunion in the next couple of years!

Love, Nancy

I always think of Aunt Louise as being kind and gracious, and remember the time when she made my daughter, Kris, a beautiful lavendar dress to wear as a flower girl at my sister, Toogie's wedding. It meant a great deal to me, and her talent inspired me to learn to sew. I'm sure she influenced many family members and other people around her as well. She was a very special aunt. My sincerest sympathies.

May God's grace comfort and sustain you through this difficult time. Hold on to His hand knowing Lou is in a better place. You will all be in our prayers. Dave & Peg Hopewell
