Mary Brame Edwards

POQUOSON - Mary Brame Edwards, 98, a native of Chase City, VA, and resident of Poquoson for seventy years, passed away on January 18, 2016 with her family by her side. Mary graduated from the University of Mary Washington in 1939 and served as a school teacher in Poquoson public schools, retiring after teaching many generations of students. She was the Chairman of Poquoson Electoral Board; active member of the DAR and the United Daughters of the Confederacy; Retired Teachers Association; University of Mary Washington Alumni Board; and a Contributor to Smithsonian Institution, and Virginia History Society. Mary was preceded in death by her husband Philip F. Edwards. She is survived by her two daughters, Martha Edwards Culpepper and Mary Edwards Owen; son, Philip Lee Edwards; grandchildren, Carolyn Miller and Brian Culpepper; and great-grandchildren, Brent Miller, Elizabeth Ann Miller, Addison Culpepper, Tucker Culpepper, and Annie Kate Culpepper. A funeral service will be held for Mary, Thursday, 11:00 AM, January 21, 2015, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Poquoson, led by Rev. James N. Earley, II. The family will receive friends at a reception in the church social hall immediately following the service. Burial will be private at Oakwood Cemetery, Surry, VA. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Liz Hicks and Stormy St. Clair for their devoted service and friendship to their mother.
