Mary McCarthy Obituary

POQUOSON - Mary Ann McCarthy, 75, a native of Succasunna, NJ, and Poquoson resident for 22 years, passed away Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at Hampton Sentara Careplex after a long battle with cancer. Mary Ann was a graduate of St. Joseph School of Nursing, and retired as a registered nurse. She was a member of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Catholic Church, Tabb; a 21 year member of Greetings to You (GU); delivered Meals on Wheels in Poquoson; and volunteered at St. Kateri Thrift Shop and Food Pantry for over 20 years. She enjoyed playing bridge; enjoyed summer trips to the Jersey Shore; and especially loved her grandchildren. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Anastasia & Frank Adams, and sister, Frances Murray. She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Raymond McCarthy; three daughters, Theresa McCarthy-Brow & husband, Richard of Rolla, MO, Patty Noonan & husband, Mark of Andover, MA, and Sue Scarpa & husband, Joe of Midlothian, VA; two sons, Christopher McCarthy & wife, Tracy of Glenwood, MD, and Kevin McCarthy & wife, Kristin of Elkridge, MD; thirteen grandchildren, Ryan, Eddie, Shawn, and Andrew Noonan, Katie and Adelaide Brow, Elizabeth and Maria Scarpa, Rachael, Jack, and Meggie McCarthy, and Alyssa and Erin McCarthy; a sister, Bea Lawrence of Ocean Township, NJ; and her beloved beagle Barney. The family will receive friends tonight, 7-9 PM, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, and other times at the home. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Saturday, 11:00 AM, at St. Kateri Tekawitha Catholic Church, celebrated by Rev. Robert E. French. Inurnment in the church columbarium will be at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Kateri Parish Food Pantry, P.O. Box 2019, Poquoson, VA, 23662. Online condolences to www.claytorrollins.com .
