Myrna WHEELER Obituary

HAMPTON - It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our beautiful and dear friend Myrna on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012. Myrna was from Louisville, Ky., but had been a Virginia resident most of her life. After a long battle with breast cancer her fight is now over.
Myrna was preceded in death by her husband, Steven L. Wheeler; her parents, Jack and Hazel Carroll, of Louisville, Ky.; and 'sis' Kitty Biller, of Louisville, Ky.
Survivors include her other 'sis' Nancy Nicoulin, of Paducah, Ky.; 'daughter' Kathie and husband John Stokes and family, of Yorktown; 'son' Joe and wife Deb Wheeler and family, of Fredericksburg, Va.; and Myrna's much cherished and beloved cats Bleu and Belle. There are too many other extended friends to mention but all were appreciated and loved deeply by her.
We would like to especially thank the staff of Personal Touch Hospice Health Services for their help and support, Dr. Mattern and his staff for the many years of support, and a special thanks to Loretta Leonard, Myrna's nurse, for their kindness and care during her courageous battle.
Most of you who knew Myrna know about her life. She spent all of her working years with the defense industry, first at Hughes Aircraft and then Raytheon Systems. Myrna was a lover of the Kentucky derby, always laughing, loved a good joke and never without a smile on her face. She was a loving and caring person, daughter, wife, 'maw,' 'sis,' and friend. 'To know her was to love her.'
Myrna was placed to rest at a private service on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Parklawn Memorial Park at her request. Those of you who knew her will not be surprised by this. She would like you to remember her with a smile and a toast.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions in her name to The Cat Corner, 85 Fulton Street, Hampton, VA 23663-2339 or the American Cancer Society. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Oh My Goodness.....I'm so very sorry to learn of Myrna's passing....a bright light of laughter, happy faces and unstinted love of life is lost to each and every one of us. All during my association with her at Hughes and Raytheon I knew I could count on her for a positive spin on any "bad stuff" that we were faced with. Her pride in her work, her appearance, her 'Vette, and her own strength will always be a beloved memory for me.

My Dear Southern Belle, fly high and free. Nancy

I had the misfortunate to hear about Ms.Wheeler's passing through a friend of a friend. I had known Ms. Wheeler for several years. I meet her when I was a teenager through her step-daughter Pauline Garrone. Pauline and I have been friends ever since. Pauline and her step mom made me feel like I was part of their family. I also had the pleasure of taking care of Hazel Carroll which was Ms. Wheeler's mother. They were both very nice woman, who I will never forget.

I was so sorry to hear about Myrna's passing but at the same time, glad to know that she's reunited with her beloved Steve and her parents. As Myrna fought this battle with cancer, she ALWAYS kept a smile on her face and had such a positive attitude. She was such a down to earth person/elegant lady all at the same time. She always told me she dreamed of someday living at the beach and I'm glad that dream came true and she lived her last years there. RIP Myrna. I'll bring ya a glass of wine from time to time.
