Nancy Matthews Keegan

Nancy Matthews Halton Keegan, 99, passed peacefully on August 24, 2023. She was a native of East Providence, Rhode Island, daughter of Gladys and Edward Halton. Nancy was a beloved wife, devoted aunt, and mom to many fur babies. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Captain Robert Daniel Keegan, brothers Edward Gibson Halton and William Timothy Halton, and sister Mary Ledore Halton. She leaves to cherish her memory nieces Sue Vreeland and Christy Thiemens, great niece Nancy Jefferson, great nephews Matthew and Robert Jefferson, great great niece Sarah Ballard and husband Glen. She will be missed by her numerous friends and neighbors at Patriots Colony.

Her education included East Providence High School, Pembroke College, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She studied Liberal Arts and helped as an engineering assistant. During WWII she worked for Curtiss-Wright Corporation and Western Union. Her other employments included Brookhaven National Labs, Long Island Nuclear Reactor, General Dynamics, and International Golf Association.

Nancy was a world traveler who enjoyed many homes around the globe with her husband Bob. They enjoyed traveling, dancing, golf, theater, and dinner parties. Their final favorite home was Patriots Colony, Williamsburg Va.

She was an excellent golfer, animal lover, and devoted a Washington Nationals baseball fan. Nancy was extremely intelligent and had a wonderful sense of humor. She was an avid reader and loved crossword puzzles. Nancy's other interests included bridge, cooking, sewing, knitting, gardening, and dog walking. She also volunteered at Altar Guild Church Outreach, Navy Relief, and Naval Officer Wives Clubs.

Nancy was loved by all who were fortunate enough to know her. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Patriots Colony and Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center.

Her ashes will be placed at Arlington National Cemetery next to her husband.
