Philip GLYNN Obituary

HAMPTON - Philip Warren Glynn, 74, died early Wednesday morning on Oct. 3, 2012 in Hampton, Va.
He was a resident of Hampton for the past 45 years. Philip was born to Ivan and Shiela Glynn in Greenfield, Mass., in 1938. He attended Tantasqua High School and graduated from Saint Michael's College in Vermont. He married his beloved bride, Sylvia Blouin, in the spring of 1960 in Springfield, Mass. They were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by friends and family at their cherished home.
Philip was an ROTC graduate from Saint Michael's, entered the Air Force as a second lieutenant and finished his military career as a captain. His civilian career expanded over 40 years as a financial advisor and later as a certified financial planner, with IDS Financial Services, which grew into Ameriprise Financial Services. He was a devoted parishioner of Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Hampton, Va., where all five of his children entered into the Sacrament of Marriage. He was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society and a third degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was a lector and a Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for many years.
Philip was preceded in death by his father, Ivan Glynn; his mother, Shiela Glynn; and his sister, Judy Glynn.
He leaves behind his sister and her husband, Marge and Earl Jackson; his best friend and beloved wife, Sylvia Glynn; his five children and their spouses, Mary and Steve Underkofler, Judy and Rick Campbell, John and Francesca Glynn, Shiela and Bill Fallon, and Edward and Christina Glynn; and 22 grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on Friday, Oct. 5, 2012. The viewing will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. followed by a funeral at 3 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

GAIL CONNERS

October 20, 2012

Dear Sweet Sylvia and Family,
The greater the love, the greater the feeling of loss. It was easy to see the two of you, Sylvia, were the very best of friends and deeply devoted to one another. The children you brought into this world and their spouses reflected a most loving and accomplished family. You and Phil had such pride in all of your children and grandchildren.
Being Californians, we had only one brief visit to share, but it was an exquisite time in your family home. It was a time we have never forgotten and speak of as a cherished moment. The welcoming we felt from you and the impression you all made on us for your kindness was quite overwhelming.
Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers.
Cousin Gail and Chuck

Dear Sylvia and Family,
I just got off the phone from talking with my sister who got a note from Marge about Phil's death. I am so very sad for your whole family and sad and shocked to think that Phil is gone from this earth. A lot of childhood memories with the cousins have bubbled up with the tears. Phil was always my mom's favorite nephew and I'm sure you heard this when we visited you folks.
Being a man of faith, Phil is in heaven and can be God's best angel greeting his mom, dad, and sister, and my mom too.
God bless each of you as you grieve this great loss. I will say some special prayers at Mass tomorrow for Phil, for you, and the family.

With deepest sympathy and love,
Sandy Glynn-Lippe

Sylvia and family, I know days have past by but the memory is still strong. I miss Phil so much in the office. I miss the days that we would sit for hours and talk about life, about how he loved his family(especially Sylvia). He had a way of looking at a problem in such a creative way and his creativity always worked. He will forever be in my heart. He was a man that loved the Lord, his family, his clients and the "office family". He had such an impact on my life. We loved him and miss him!

Sylvia and Family,
We were so sorry to hear about the sudden passing of Phil. We have been his clients for many years and along with you will truly miss him. It is comforting to know that he did not have to face long time suffering but went quietly in the loving arms of the Lord.
May God, family and friends be your solace and strength.

It saddens me to hear the bad news and I hope the family stays strong through such a tough time. Mr. and Mrs. Glynn have been customers of mine since the beginning of my landscaping business over 10+ years ago. Mr. Glynn was one of my favorite customers and he will truely be missed. Thank you for everything!!

Shiela....just some thoughts from my family. Phil was an amazing giving man and was someone my dad loved a lot. Phil was so good to my dad in his final years and I was always so grateful for the time that Phil spent with him. Dad and mom considered him a special friend. I am so sorry for your loss and pray for peace for you at this time.

Phil, you were an inspiration to me and many other financial advisors. Your were the sage veteran when I started in 1986. You counseled me toward success with many hours valuable mentoring. I'll bet you continue that in your next life. ~Bill Van Hoy

We have lost a very special friend. When I think of Phil I see his smile and hear his laughter. Even in a bad situation he could see a way around and encourage you. He has certainly been there for Bobby & I. We were one of his first insurance sales. He became our financial expert from then on. Sylvia, and family you are in our prayers and thoughts. His loss will be felt in this city for a long time.
