Raymond HARE Obituary

GLOUCESTER - Raymond E. "Ray" Hare, 66, a native of Newark, Ohio, and resident of the Peninsula for 42 years, passed away Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at home with family by his side.
He retired in 2009 after serving 37 years as a nuclear electrician for Newport News Shipbuilding. Ray was a member of Church of Christ, Warwick Moose Lodge, and served in the U. S. Navy for seven years.
From generation to generation Ray and Ginger's families believed in supporting and serving the military and would express that they are "diehard Christian patriots" for this great country. Ray also enjoyed fishing, horse racing, bowling, traveling, and supported "all" sports. Ray was an avid Cincinnati Reds fan and a committed NASCAR #3 and #88 Earnhardt, Sr. and Jr. fan. But, his love and passion was spending time with his loving wife, Ginger and their family. Ray was a beloved husband, loving father, a best friend, hard worker, favorite uncle, and a gentle and loving grandfather, who will be greatly missed by all.
Ray was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Jean Steinhour Hare.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ginger L. Hare; his son, Raymond E. Hare Jr. ; two grandchildren, Forrest Hare and Quintin Hare; his father, Bernard Hare; a sister, Ellen Hare; a brother, Ron Hare; brother-in-laws, Doy Thomas Jr., and friend, Hope Black and Glenn Thomas and wife, Patty; sisters-in-law, Gail Overstreet and husband Charlie, Amanda Arnold and husband, Van, and Elaine Weathers and husband, Randy; and numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m., at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home, Poquoson, immediately followed by military honors and a celebration of Ray's life service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel by Father Robert "Rob" Cole. Inurnment is private at a later date. A reception will follow the service at his brother's home, 86 Messick Road, Poquoson.
Memorial contributions may be made to Walter Reed Hospice Unit – Gloucester, 7358 Main Street, Gloucester, VA 23061. Online condolences to www.claytorrollins.com. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Ray was a good Christian man and will be missed. I recall this quote from a man named Joe Stowell "No matter how scary our journey may feel today or how hopeless our future may look, the assurance of His never-failing presence can provide us with the courage and comfort to make it through. And best of all, when this short life is over, we will always be with Him." I offer this prayer - Father, thank You that in the darkest seasons of life, You will never abandon us. Guide us with Your never-failing presence through both the welcome and unwelcome changes of life. In Jesus' name, amen.
