Ruben had taken these awesome microscope pictures and sent them to me like 2 years ago.

I was so sad to read this about Ruben. I worked with him at NASA Langley for many years. He was a very quiet private person with a kind soul. He never turned anyone away who had a question about just about anything. One particular project (FIRESAT) the Team spent a lot of hours in the lab ...working and talking. I think we really got to know Ruben during that time. He talked about his time growing up on an island and how he wanted to get to the mainland some kind of bad. WE all found it funny that so many people long to go to an island and Ruben just wanted off the island! I will remember kindly his smile and gentle laugh.
Rest in peace my friend you are not forgotten.

Ruben was awesome at improv guitar and photography (catching interesting scenes of animals and microscopic cells), and he was always humble. He helped me with questions about the Iridium Satellite network for the NASA LOFTID project, he'd always talk with me about my random personal problems, and he was the lead guitar player in a band that we tried to start a few months leading up to the COVID pandemic.

I am so sorry to hear of Ruben's passing. I met him at NASA when he was working on the LITE experiment that flew on the shuttle. He was the software engineer in charge of the complex bore sight system. LITE ushered in a new era of remote sensing. Ruben's work fed in to the highly successful CALIPSO mission. Later he continued work on 2-micron laser systems. Through all of this, he was a warm and approachable team mate. I am happy that he had so many outside hobbies and friends and family.

John and I are so very sorry to hear of Ruben's passing. We didn't know about Suzie's passing either, so it is doubly sad for us to learn. Our love goes out to his family and his children. We have some good memories of them as they were our next-door neighbors for sixteen years in Hampton. Suzie took in an adorable dog, Rusty, and kept us for a week or so before we were ready to give Rusty a permanent home. We'd just lost our first dog, Jenny. That was such a wonderful thing they did for us, and we'll always remember it! Ruben helped John with some stereo equipment, and was always a good neighbor, who we knew we could count on. So sorry for everyone's loss.

Ruben was a great friend, and his dedication, humor, and music will be sorely missed by the NASA Langley family.
