Russell HARMON Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Russell Don Harmon Sr., retired Command Sergeant Major, served in the U.S. Army for 26 years, from 1947 to 1974. He enjoyed many successes following his military career, but service to his country was of the utmost importance to him. He passed away on Jan. 21, 2012. "Another Soldier Has Gone Home."
He will forever be remembered and adored by his wife of over 61 years, Leona; his son, Russell; his daughter, Robin and her husband, Doug; his daughter, Kelley and her husband, Ken; and his beloved grandchildren. He is further survived by his siblings, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard.
Russell touched many lives with his unwavering selflessness and compassion. He maintained his hallmark sense of humor, and gift of storytelling throughout his journey. He will forever be remembered and respected by those touched by his love, devotion, and friendship.
He will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery, with full military honors, at a date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice House and Support Care of Williamsburg, 4445 Powhatan Pkwy., Williamsburg, VA 23188.

To Leonia Harmon & Family:
It is with sadness and deep regret that I write to you at this time. I first met Russ in 1974 while I was still Chief of Cardiology at the Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. He became my patient and my friend through many health related battles. He always stood tall and faced so many difficult issues with always the positive approach I came to know and to respect. I looked forward to his visits throughout the years. We talked about many subjects besides his health, and I always learned from his life experiences. I will miss him as I know his family will.I will continue to reflect on the parts of his life that he shared with me. He will always be my friend.

To Ms Leona and family:
It sadden my heart when I learned of Mr Russ's passing, but I know he is now at peace, in the army of the Lord. I don't have to tell you how much I loved him and loved caring for him for the last 13 years as his nurse. He always inquired about my boys and we shared stories of NC. He was the "boyfriend" of the office to all the ladies, but I always told them I was his number one. I pray the peace of God gives you the strength and endurance you will need to face the days when others lives have returned to normal. God bless you Ms Leona, please call on me if you ever need anything of me. In Gods hands always, Rev Myrtle Williams-Dobson, LPN
