Sallie C. Rich

NEWPORT NEWS - Sallie Christine Rich passed away Tuesday May 26, 2009, at the Chesapeake Retirement Community.
She was born in Castalia, N.C., Oct. 7, 1918.
Before her declining health, she was an avid gardener and an accomplished seamstress. She attended Hampton Roads Business College and retired from Federal Civil Service at Langley AFB.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Needham and Lillie Rich; her sister, Belle Hux; her brothers, Lindwood, Roy, Adron, and Glenn Rich.
Ms. Rich is survived by her daughter, Maydel Nelson and husband, James; grandchildren, Christopher B. Nelson and wife, Rachel of Yorktown, and Robin Jill Cederquist and husband, Jarrod of Fort Mill, S.C.; sister, Mary Cousin; and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Chesapeake, especially the nurses and the CNAs in the Health Care Unit, for the loving care given her.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Amory Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, May 29, at Parklawn Memorial Park, Hampton, by the Rev. Dr. Furman Kenney. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.
