I grew up on Greenbriar Ave as the Tatem's Next door neighbor, Tommy and I were the same age so we became very good friends and generated many fine memories as we progress through school together. As we grew older we sorta drifted apart and I have not seen Tommy in over 50 years. It sounds like he grew to be a wonderful husband, father and fireman, you should be very very proud of him. My brother Jerry and I talked several times about stopping by the fire station to talk to Tommy. We have kicked ourselves ever since for not doing that. My thoughts and prayers are with Tommy's family and Shirley during this time.

I loved Capt Tatem like a brother. Tom helped me as a firefighter and taught me how to sail the bay. He had his hands full trying to keep the crew working with him in line , but he always had their backs. Sail on Tommy and rest in peace. Mack & Donna McMahon

I knew this man as "Jeffs dad" since I was 4 years old. As I got older and learned respect I called him Mr. Tatem. Mr. Tatem was a very accomplished, well respected man that raised 3 great kids. Rest in peace Mr. Tatem. God speed and calm waters..

My deepest sympathies to the Tatem family. I worked with Chief Tatem for almost two decades. He was a Lieutenant when I entered the NNFD as a new recruit and Tommy's commitment to those placed in his care was never in question. Rest in peace my friend.

To my friend and fellow firefighter (TT) rest now. I will miss the times we had together at old #1 station.Playing Volley Ball out back of the station and going through the window to answer the phone in the alarm room. You playing your drums in the drill tower. To all the family God Bless. Ret Capt Ron & Sally Smith.
