Tressie Garrett Mahloy
HAMPTON - Tressie Garrett Mahloy, 66, passed on peacefully Monday, March 1, 2004, at Northampton Convalescent Center after a courageous battle with cancer. She continued her fight around those she loved without complaint or any thought of defeat. Her quote 'Life is for the Living', as she did. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Terrence P. Mahloy; her parents, Harry A. and Tressie B. Garrett; two brothers, Eugene and Leon Rhodes and her dear brother-in-laws, Richard Snelling and Michael Dolske. She is survived by her daughters, Terry Ann Mahloy Wilburn of Hampton and Ellen Wheeler and her husband, Alex, of Glen Allen; her son, Mike Mahloy and his wife, Cristy, of Newport News; her three sisters, Minnie G. Snelling of Newport News, Ann G. Harrell and her husband, Gus, of Hampton and Doris D. Muschek and her husband, Bob, of California; her brother, John Garrett and his wife, Kathleen, of Newport News; her sister-in-law, Nelle Hariu of Dunnesville and her four grandchildren, Tommy, 13, Alex, 11, Patrick and Maggie and many nieces and nephews, including one great-great nephew. Also a host of friends including her confidants, Peggy and Pat and three of Tommy's friends she cared a great deal for, TJ, Brian and Jeffery. Tressie, a thoughtful and compassionate person, volunteered in the early 1980s for meals-on-wheels. Her hobby of collecting antiques lead to the opening of Tressie's Treasures. She enjoyed meeting others and the conversations they had. She will be truly missed by her family and friends and continues to live on in our hearts forever. A special thank you to Riverside Regional Medical Center, Northampton Convalescent Center and VA Oncologists and associates for their care. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 6, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church conducted by Dr. Robert Marston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 895 Middleground Blvd., Suite 154, Newport News, VA 23606. Arrangements by Weymouth Funeral Home.
