Martha D. Clark

1928 - 2022

Martha Lee Dudley Clark died suddenly on December 7, 2022.

She was born on March 24, 1928 in Snowmass, Colorado, daughter of Arthur and Flora B Dudley.

Martha grew up on a ranch in Colorado, but moved to Virginia as a teenager, and lived her adult life in Staunton, Va. Most recently she lived at Woodberry Forest with her daughter, Cindy, and son-in-law, Jim Reid.

She was preceded in death by her three siblings, Virginia Ridge, Edward Dudley, and Fred Dudley. and by her husband, Herbert B Clark.

Martha was the mother of Cindy (Jim) Reid, Steve (Susan) Clark, and Tom (Karen) Clark. Her grandchildren are Leighton (Rachel) Reid, Betsy (Lee) Collins, Robbie (Keelin) Clark, Lily Clark, Hannah Moody, and Dylan Moody. Her beloved great-grandchildren are Clark and Flora Reid.

Martha loved to camp and to fish, and she loved the Nationals and the Hokies. She loved her family deeply, and she was a terrific bridge player, both in person and on-line. Her on-line bridge friends are scattered across the world! Her family loved her sense of fun and adventure.

Martha believed in the fullness of the American dream and expected her children and grandchildren not just to achieve but to contribute. Her children all attended and graduated college, likewise all her grandchildren have excelled academically and professionally.

Within the Clark/Reid family she was the transformative matriarch. So much of what the family has accomplished and will accomplish is attributable to her grit, vision and dauntless spirit. She was truly one of a kind and will be forever missed.

No service is planned at this time. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later time.
