Benjamin Joseph Fallica

Benjamin Joseph Fallica Retired Marine Corps Msgt. Benjamin Joseph Fallica of Ruckersville, VA, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2013, at the age of 93. Ben is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elsie; six children, Rick, Diane, Patty Shreve and her husband Dave, Bill and his wife Alison, Joe and his wife Vada, and Steve; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great- grandchildren; also one sister, Jenny Trivelli; and a host of family and close friends who he dearly loved. Msgt. Fallica proudly served his country for 22 years in the United States Marine Corps, fighting in World War II and the Korean War. Ben was decorated with two Purple Hearts and earned several other medals of distinction. While serving in the 4th Marine Division in Guam, Ben was the welterweight boxing champion. As well, he was the Golden Gloves Champion of Brooklyn, winning the Golden Gloves Championship at Madison Square Garden. After the Marine Corps, Ben worked for the District of Columbia Government. Ben and Elsie retired to Central Virginia in 1975. They were founding parishioners of the Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church in Ruckersville. Funeral services for Ben will be held Friday, October 11, 2013, at The Church of the Incarnation in Charlottesville. The family will be receiving guests at 11 a.m. in the Daily Mass Chapel. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:15.
