Brian Williamson Obituary

Cumberland - Brian R. J. Williamson, M.D., 84, formerly of Charlottesville, VA, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 24, 2025 in Falmouth, Maine. Brian was born on July 3, 1941, in Ireland, son of the late Chancellor Richard and Esther (Glover) Williamson.

Brian grew up in Clones, County Monaghan, Ireland. He attended Portora Royal School, Northern Ireland, and received his medical degree from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland, where he met his beloved wife, Helen. He was board certified in both Radiology and Internal Medicine. He moved with the family to America to practice nuclear medicine, eventually settling in Charlottesville, Virginia, where he was a medical professor and practicing Radiologist at the University of Virginia for more than 25 years. He also practiced at Henrico Doctors' Hospital in Richmond, Virginia for over a decade. Brian loved living in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia before moving to Maine to be closer to family. He enjoyed practicing the art of medicine, adored his family, and was forever curious, loving, patient, and kind.

Brian was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Newbold and Elizabeth Corkey, and his brother, John Williamson. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Helen Williamson; daughters, Nicola Williamson, and Vanessa and her husband Tim Record; son, John R. D. Williamson and his wife Katharine Evans; grandchildren, William, Felicity, and Alden Record, and Sophie Williamson; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of his care providers and to Legacy Memory Care at OceanView.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 16th, at The Episcopal Church of St. Mary, 43 Foreside Rd, Falmouth. A private burial will be held at a later date.

Dr. Williamson was such a sweetheart with a kind word for everybody. He was a gentle soul and a true English gentleman. I enjoyed working with him at UVA Radiology many years ago.
