Barbara Ann Wideman Brown, 84, of Charlottesville, departed this life the night of March 18, 2018, at Our Lady of Peace in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Born on December 6, 1933, in Trenton, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Charles Edgar Wideman and Dorothea Leech Wideman. She was also preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, Herbert Hoover Brown "Herb"; and her sister, Kathryn Ruth Wideman.
Barbara met her husband, Herb, at age 14, where they attended school together in Greenwood.
Thereafter, Barbara attended Bob Jones University, and Pan American School of Richmond. An accomplished pianist, she directed choir and taught Sunday School for many years at Lebanon Presbyterian Church. Barbara was a devoted wife, mother, and beloved "Mawmaw," to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was kind and altruistic, and could also hold her own playing a game of Rummy. Barbara was a true lady, grounded by her faith in God.
Barbara is survived by a daughter, Jacquelyn Brown Roberts "Jackie", of Waynesboro; a son, Jeffrey Charles Brown, Sr. "Jeff" and his wife, Margaret Elliott Brown of Charlottesville; a daughter, Jennifer Leigh Brown, of Charlottesville; grandson, Shawn Christopher Brown Roberts, Sr. and his wife, Kelly Gurley Roberts of Greenwood; grandson, Jeffrey Charles Brown, Jr. "Jay" and his wife, Mayan Elgort Brown of Earlysville; granddaughter, Erinn Brown Wilder and her husband, Cody Lee Wilder of Richmond; great grandchildren, Shawn Christopher Brown Roberts, Jr. "Beau", Brooks Charles Brown and Lillie Pearl Roberts; sister, Mary Jean Wideman Sandy and brother in law, Lynwood W. Sandy of Waynesboro; niece, Kim Sandy Teague and husband, Dr. W. Gerald Teague of Charlottesville; nephew, David Bradford Sandy and wife, Donna Lilley Sandy of Lyndhurst; cousin, Robin Wideman of Mississippi; cousin, David Wideman of Tennessee; and other special nieces, nephews and cousins in Virginia and California.
Barbara's family extends special thanks to the staff at the Christopher Center of Our Lady of Peace, and to Dr. John Dent and Dr. Tim Short.
Visitation will occur from 1 until 2:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018, at Hill & Wood Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 3 p.m. Saturday, at Belmont Baptist Church in Charlottesville. Barbara's nephew, the Rev. David B. Sandy and the Rev. Ron Nickell will be presiding. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association, 3025 Berkmar Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22901, or to the Alzheimer's Association, 485 Hillsdale Dr., Charlottesville, VA 22901.
