October 21, 2024

David L. Bogdonoff, MD, 69, of Palmyra, formerly of Rochester NY, and Charlottesville, VA, passed away unexpectedly at home on October 21, 2024. He was the son of the late Harold and Miriam (Tintner) Bogdonoff. He was the loving husband to Nancy (Grace) Bogdonoff for 41 years.

David graduated from Brighton High School, Rochester, NY, in 1973. He went on to attend Wesleyan University, Middletown, CT, and the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He served his surgical residency at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center and his anesthesia residency at the University of Virginia Medical Center in Charlottesville. After retirement last year, David moved to Palmyra, PA. He was a resident and volunteer mower at Londonderry Village. In addition to his academic achievement, he also took great pride in being a multi-talented Mr. Fix-It around the house. He got his pilot's license before he could drive and renewed that license in recent years.

In addition to his wife, David is survived by two children, Jacob Alan Bogdonoff and wife, Ann Mason (Rumble) Bogdonoff of Crozet, VA, and Eleanor Kate Bogdonoff of New Orleans, LA; and two grandchildren, Fox Mason and Stella Grace Bogdonoff. He was predeceased by his brother, Mark Bogdondoff.

Saddened to hear so long after. My apologies. David and I were anesthesia residents together. I learned much from him and loved his superior intellect and wry sense of humor. When I think of U Va he is always in my vision of the place. I will try to honor him with a donation to his favorite charities. The Birch family offer sincere albeit belated condolences.

I remember Dr. Bogdanoff from the early 90's, I was in nursing school and was doing a practicum in the PACU. A patient went into respiratory arrest × 3. Dr. Bogdonoff ordered me not to release that patient to a floor bed, he wanted that patient to be taken to the ICU. The surgeon wanted the patient released to a floor bed and insisted he was the one who picked where the patient should go after surgery. Well, Dr. Bogdonoff came to me and told me that the surgeon was correct and could choose the appropriate placement of the patient after being released from the PACU. Then, he told me that HE was the person responsible for releasing the patient from the PACU. He didn't release that patient until the next day. HE SAVED A LIFE!
Then, a few years later, I came into UVA, in labor, giving birth, it was an emergency, over head speakers and bells rang. Who was there? It was Dr. Bogdonoff. He helped save 2 lives that day. My heart is heavy today. I am so sorry for your loss. I only met him a few times in my life but he made a huge and positive impact. God bless him and his family.

I loved working with David. He had a great sense of humor and was an outstanding anesthesiologist. I am so sad that he is no longer in this world. My thoughts are with his family.

I join many other anesthesiologists and physicians in expressing my gratitude to David as a friend, mentor, and colleague. He was one of the finest clinicians I know, and his contribution to resident teaching for 30 years at UVA was incalculable. David was a wonderful friend to many of us, a very hard worker, and a physicians´ physician. His passing into the Greater Life will leave a void that many will feel for a long time. May the common Creator of us all bless you in your rest, David. My prayers go with you, Nancy, Jacob, and Eleanor. Ryan
