Denese Straughn Obituary

Denese Davison Straughn

April 8, 1956 - February 8, 2026

Denese Davison Straughn passed away on Sunday, February 8th, 2026, at the age of 69. She is survived by her two children, David Vaughn Straughn and Alexis Straughn Parow; her son-in-law, Jason Parow; her two grandchildren, Nathan and Sydney Parow; and her longtime partner, Timothy Hutchinson. She is also survived by a host of loving extended family members, in-laws, nieces, nephews, and treasured friends. Denese came to Virginia with her young family many years ago and immediately started in various fields of service, from clerical work at a developing law office to even substitute teaching. She was a Notary Public, an Election Official and volunteered for the United Way. She was an Administrative Assistant for medical offices in Louisa and Richmond before retiring as the Office Specialist for the Faculty and Employee Assistance Program at UVA. Even after her retirement, she continued to serve, pursuing her certification in life coaching. She leaves behind a legacy of loyalty, unwavering compassion and dedication to healing of hearts and minds. She had a radiance that touched and warmed whoever was fortunate enough to be in her presence. She devoted her life to extending kindness and support to others and putting their needs before her very own. She will be remembered for her benevolence, civility and selflessness.

The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 28th at 2 p.m. at the Teague Funeral Home at 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, VA 22903.
