Dolores Johansen Obituary

Dolores Eva Klockmann Johansen

September 22, 1928 - October 29, 2021

The earth lost a true gentlewoman on October 29, 2020. Kind and refined, warm and gracious, Mrs. Johansen was born Dolores Eva Klockmann on September 22, 1928, in Weimar, Texas, to Edgar and Erna (Kahlden) Klockmann.

Growing up during the Depression, she recollected wearing feed sack dresses, but later took up what turned out to be a lifelong hobby as a master seamstress making beautifully tailored clothing and household items for her family. Her eye for beautiful things also led her to pursue painting, gardening and collecting artifacts from all over the world.

One of the greatest achievements of her life was supporting the military career of her husband of 62 years, Lt. General (Ret.) Eivind H. Johansen, which took them to Japan, Germany, Alaska and many military bases in the U.S. before their final assignment at the Pentagon where her husband served as Army Deputy Chief of Staff for Logistics.

Mrs. Johansen is survived by her son, Chris (Michelle) Johansen of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter, Jane (Chris) Sheaffer of the Charlottesville area; her grandchildren, Christie (Ray) Pinney of Seattle, Lauren Johansen of Seattle, and David (Carly) Sheaffer of Lynchburg, Virginia, as well as four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband (who passed in 2012); her brothers, Robert and Glenn Klockmann; and great-grandson, Abram Sheaffer.

A service and interment for Mrs. Johansen will be held at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday, January 29, 2021, at 10 a.m. Because of the pandemic, the service may also be viewed online by entering the following link: https://us05web.zoom.us/j/86430768139?pwd=Smp3bkJpUWhqRnFRK0t0UWFRQUo2Zz09
