Larry Stewart Dudley, 69, of Palmyra, Va., died on Wednesday, August 30, 2017. He was the third born child of Jerry Preston Dudley, Sr. and Pearl Taylor Dudley. Preceding him in death were his parents; a brother, Jerry Preston Dudley, Jr.; his daughter, Tammie Marie Dudley; and his step-son, Tony Rankin. Surviving him is his wonderful wife, Betty Rankin Dudley; his children, Jeff Rankin, wife Barbara of Buena Vista, Jerry Rankin, wife, Becky of Scottsville, Theresa Rankin, companion JJ Jackson of Columbia, S.C., Stewart Dudley, wife, Kim Bragg of Pensacola, Fla.; two granddaughters, he raised, Katie Pritchett, and Sami Dudley; 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy Dudley Byrd of Charlottesville; brother, Roger Dudley, wife Barbara, of Fayetteville, N.C.; sister-in-law, June Dudley of Troy; and beloved friend, Wayne Bryant of Keswick, Va. Larry spent his entire life in the Charlottesville area and had numerous friends among those was the Bryant family whom he considered his second family. His life work included auto mechanics at his business, Dudley Automotive and trucking with his company, Dudley Trucking. After his family, his passion in life was hunting. He enjoyed using his cooker to cook up meals for his family and friends. Larry was the glue that held family and friends together as he organized these events, an annual family/friend reunion, an annual deer cook-out and after his mother died, the four times a year Retired Sears Employees' meeting Larry had a Christian faith and attended Charlottesville Church of the Brethren. A Memorial Service is planned for September 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Three Chopt Community Center, 2366 Oliver Creek Rd, Troy, VA 22974.
