Edward Via Obituary

Edward "Eddie" Rice Via, 74, of Troy died Sunday, February 17, 2008, at his home.

Born in Alexandria, Virginia on April 26, 1933, he was the son of the late David Morgan Via and Madge Lee Bruffey Via. He was also preceded in death by his son, Mark Edward Via; one sister, Verna F. Via; two brothers, Roland M. Via and Raymond S. Via.

Mr. Via was retired from the automotive industry having served as Auto Parts Manager for MacGregor Motors, Medlin and Colonial Auto Parts. He was a life time member of the Brethren church with his current membership at Charlottesville Church of the Brethren. He also had served as a Boy Scout Leader in the Earlysville area for more than 10 years. He had coached Little League Baseball and Football and had a life long love of boating. He and his wife maintained a home in Deltaville for over 35 years so that he could be closer to the water. He had been an avid camper, boater and in 1988 had received his Private Pilot License. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served in the Korean Conflict and was a member and former Commander of the Coast Guard Flotilla Auxillary.

He is survived by his wife, Jean Stribling Via of Troy; one daughter, Pamela Lynne Via-Martinez and her husband, Harold, of Falls Church, Virginia; two grandchildren, Nicole R. Martinez of Falls Church, Virginia, and Ryan Edward Martinez of Falls Church, Virginia; one sister, Grace Leola Via Baker and her husband, Robert, of Columbia, Virginia; three brothers, David M. Via Jr. and his wife, Janet, of Newville, Pennsylvania, Wayne B. Via and his wife, Dorothy, of Richlands, Virginia, John Frank Via and his wife, Brenda, of Barboursville, Virginia; sisters-in -law, Doris B. Via of Charlottesville, Virginia, Betty Via of Richmond, Virginia; close friends, Joel Sullivan and Ron Kesner; great-nephew, Jeff Stribling of Troy, Virginia; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday, February 21, 2008, at Charlottesville Church of the Brethren, 1225 East Rio Road in Charlottesville with Pastor Tom Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at the Teague Funeral Home.

The family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, 1445 East Rio Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901 or the Hospice of the Piedmont, 2200 Old Ivy Road, Suite 2, Charlottesville, VA 22903.

SO SORRY TO HEAR OF EDDIES PASSING ON. EDDIE GOT ME STARTED IN THE PARTS DEPT WHEN I WORKED WITH HIM AT MC GREGOR MOTORS. BACK IN THE LATE 60S. I PLAYED GOLF WITH EDDIE AND MARK AT THE LAKE EDDIE WAS TRUELY A GREAT PERSON HE WILL BE MISSED. MAY THE GOOD LORD WATCH OVER YOU AND COMFORT YOU.
