Elizabeth Powell Beddow

April 8, 1936 - September 26, 2024

Elizabeth "Liz" Powell Beddow passed away on September 26, 2024, at the Center for Acute Hospice Care, after a short illness. She was born on April 8, 1936, in Nelson County to the late William and Florence Powell. Liz was preceded in death by her brothers, William, Clarence, Herbert and David Powell and sisters, Carrie Sjostrom, Florence Craig and Charlotte Brock. Liz lived her whole life in the Charlottesville area. After high school, she worked at Miller and Rhoades, Guaranty Bank and A & P grocery store. During this time, she met and married Wayne Beddow and they were together for almost 60 years. Liz and Wayne were members of Hinton Avenue Methodist Church before joining Ivy Creek Methodist Church, where they both were very active and sang in the choir. Liz is survived by her husband, Wayne; her daughter, Kathy Meadows (Joe); grandchildren, Cameron Hall (Sloane), Candice Hall, Chad Hall, Stacy Martin (Nicholas Williamson), Arvin Dorman Jr. and Elizabeth Dorman; 11 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Mildred Marshall, sister-in-law, Connie Jarman and many loving nieces and nephews. Liz also leaves behind her church family and many friends at Branchlands Independent Living. There will be a memorial service for Liz on Friday, October 11th, at 11 a.m., at Ivy Creek Methodist Church followed by a reception, where you will be able to visit with the family. If you would like to make a donation in Liz's memory, please consider the stained-glass window fund at Ivy Creek United Methodist Church. Donations may be sent to Ivy Creek UMC, 674 Woodlands Road, Charlottesville, VA 22901.
