Gloria Watson Obituary

On September 18th our beloved Gloria Crawford (Strickler) Watson was promoted to glory. Many knew her as Mom, Grandma, GiGi, or Glo. She was born December 18, 1941 to Alma and Leslie Crawford. In addition to her parents, she was proceeded in death by daughter Stacy Strickler, sister Sandra Campbell, husband Alvin Watson, ex-husband Maynard Strickler, and several dear in-laws.

She is survived by daughters Dana Strickler, Vicki Collier (Thurman), and Robin Hester (Steve), sister Colleen Herndon (Carson), brother-in-law Dennis Campbell, and many in-laws in Davis, Strickler, and Taylor families whom she loved dearly. Her grandchildren: Ashlynn, Erica (Tim), Casey, Jacob, Tyler (Allison), Travis, Dante (Mary) - Great-Grandchildren - Tatum, Jessa, Quinton, Judah, Griffin, Rosie, Braden, Cassius, Leo, Zimri, and Brianna.

She was a career long worker at State Farm Insurance as well as a member and deacon of Mtn Plain Baptist Church.

She has been described by her family as the rock, a quiet nurturer, one of the hardest working women they knew, and a woman who loved God and her family. She enjoyed laughing until she cried. A verse that describes her well is - Proverbs 31:31 - "honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."

A casual Family Night will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday September 24th at Crozet Baptist Church. A "come as you are" casual celebration of life will be Monday September 25th at Crozet Baptist Church 11 a.m. with Dr. Sam Kellum and Pastor Thurman Collier.

Donations if you feel lead: The Caring Ministry at Crozet Baptist, Leukemia Society, The Paris Project at City Point Restoration COG (cprcog.net) or Mtn Plain Baptist Church.

Gloria was a friend to many and will be remembered for her kind way and sweet smile. I treasure the sympathy card she sent me when my husband passed a few months ago. I remember her from Compassionate Friends. She is far from pain and sickness now. Love to all of her family.

That pic with that warm smile captures her well. She was intentional about sharing conversation and always lending a hand. She was always there at every family event. She will be missed. She is now in the arms of Jesus!

Dana, Vickie, and Robin - For many, many years, your mom and my mom were such wonderful supporters of The Compassionate Friends. I have fond memories of the monthly meetings and Christmas remembrance services where Gloria and Grandma Jean participated faithfully with compassion and strength. God bless the memory of your mom and the wonderful life she lived and loved.
