Guilford Lynn Obituary

Lynn Gilmer Guilford Lynn Gilmer Guilford, of Louisa, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. Lynn was born at "Woodbourne," her family home in Louisa, on October 14, 1928, to the late Weir B. and Ruth M. Gilmer. She graduated from Louisa County High School and received her bachelor's degree in Mathematics from Westhampton College, University of Richmond, in 1949. She attended graduate school at the University of Virginia for Library Science and was a librarian in the Louisa County Public School system for many years. Lynn was married to the late William B. Guilford, retired Major, United States Army, and retired Registrar of the University of Virginia. She loved and supported her community. She was a charter founder and life member of the Louisa County Historical Society, life member of the Meriwether Society, long-time member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and served twice as Regent of the Louisa Courthouse Chapter of the DAR. She was a past member of the Louisa County Electoral Board and represented Louisa County on the Board of Trustees of Piedmont Community College. Lynn was preceded in death by her brother, Weir B. Gilmer Jr.; her sister, Ruth M. Gilmer; her sisters-in-law, Ruth S. Gilmer and Marcia J. Kerr; and her best friend, Griswold Boxley. She is survived by her brother, John B. Gilmer of Louisa, Virginia; sister-in-law, Mildred C. Gilmer of Atlanta, Georgia; and three children, Lynn G. Wagner and her husband, Scott Wagner, of Hanover, Virginia, William B. Guilford Jr., and Michael B. Guilford of Louisa, Virginia. She is also survived by three grandchildren, James Matthew Wagner, Caryn Meriwether Wagner and Katherine Grey Wagner; and many beloved nieces and nephews. The family will greet friends and relatives on Monday, August 4, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m. at The Boxley House, 103 Ellisville Drive, Louisa, Virginia. A private graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Cemetery in Louisa, Virginia, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Louisa County Historical Society.
