Harold Landis Obituary

Harold Landis Landis, 86, of Madison, died Monday, May 15, 2006, at his residence.

He was born April 20, 1920, in Pennsylvania, to the late Henry and Edith Moyer Landis.

Mr. Landis spent his life as a farmer. He was a member of a gospel band in Pennsylvania and later moved to Virginia continuing his love for music by playing the guitar and trumpet in many churches. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church and the Gideon's.

He loved spending time with his wife and traveling in their motor home. Mr. Landis was a loving, Christian husband, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Eleanor Roth Landis; six children, Virginia Smith and her husband, Robert, of Madison, Caroline Mazelin and her husband, Roy, of Sarasota, Florida, Patricia Utz and her husband, Perry, of Madison, Sandra Gardner and her husband, Francis, of Sarasota, Florida, Charles R. Landis and his wife, Deborah, of Sarasota, Florida and Donna Lee Beidler and her husband, Gary, of Sarasota, Florida; one brother, Earl Landis and his wife, Dorothy, of Royersford, Pennsylvania; and two sister, Elizabeth Wagner and her husband, Herman, of Sarasota, Florida and Pearl Fulmer of Harleysville, Pennsylvania; and one sister-in-law, Claire Landis.

Additional survivors included his 20 grandchildren, Teresa McDonald, Linda Ogelbee, Katherine Ford, Mary Alice Haynes, John Smith, James Smith, Allen Mazelin, Mark Mazelin, Virginia Utz, Matthew Utz, Mark Utz, Michael Utz, David Gardner, Paul Gardner, Tanya Miller, James Landis, Barbara Landis, Michael Beidler, Angela Beidler, and Holly Beidler, and 31 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Harold Landis Jr.; one grandson, Joel Alan Utz; and one brother, Henry Landis.

The family will receive friends 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 1735 W. Hoover Rd, Haywood, VA 22722.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, May 21, 2006, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church with Pastor Brian Wagner and Pastor Perry Utz officiating.

Interment will follow in Mt. Carmel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be his grandsons.

May knowing that your loved one is in heaven where there is no pain and suffering bring you consolation as you think of the wonderful memories he has left you with. I well remember your family and the love you had for the Lord. I was a friend of Virginia's in High School

and got to hear Harold's music and

hear of his love for the Lord as well as visit in the home. Our prayers are with your entire family'

Grandpa Landis loved our Lord Jesus Christ with all his heart, and his actions always confirmed that simple fact that Christ had saved his soul. We will miss him dearly, but know we will see him in heaven.
