Hilton Hall Obituary

Hilton Wood Hall, Sr., known as "Pete" or "PawPaw," completed his journey in life on September 14, 2025, after 92 wonderful years. He was born in Charlottesville in 1932 to John P. and Lula Wood Hall, who preceded him in death along with his brothers Vanward and Lee Mundie, his sister Shirley and his son Daniel Leon Hall.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Shirley Estes Hall and by their children: Hilton W. Hall, Jr. (Karen), Brenda Kaiser (Rich), Timothy W. Hall (Pam), and Philip R. Hall (Carol), along with 12 grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren, and by his younger sister Lulu B. Peyton.

A native of Charlottesville, he attended Lane High School before enlisting in the Navy, where he proudly served his country for several years. Following his discharge from the Navy he returned to Lane High School and earned his High School diploma, having earlier earned a GED while in the service.

After graduating from Lane High School, he moved to Northern Virginia for nine years before moving back to Charlottesville to start Hall Brothers, Inc. with his brothers.

He provided a number of building services to a number of local businesses as a Cabinet Builder, Master Stairway Builder; and several examples of his craft continue to grace stately homes along Park Street and churches around town and neighborhoods such as Woodbrook Subdivision where they built the kitchen cabinets.

He became very active in the Boy Scouts and helped start a Webelos Troop in his home before Aldersgate United Methodist, on Rio Road, offered space in their facility for the troop to meet. He also was involved with Boy Scouts of America Troop 70 at Church of Our Saviour, where three of his sons participated.

When not practicing his craft or serving his community, he could often be found at Spudnuts Donut shop, sitting at the round table with friends, sharing stories.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, where he was a member and taught Sunday School, on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Viktória Parvin officiating.

In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial gift in his name to the St. Mark's Lutheran Church at 100 Alderman Rd, Charlottesville, VA 22903or to the Charlottesville Albemarle SPCA at 3355 Berkmar Dr, Charlottesville, VA 22901.

Condolences may be shared online at www.hillandwood.com.

Sending condolences in memory of my mother, Laura Grace Hall Burgess who was Pete's cousin. She thought so much of him. We would see him at Spudnut and around town. Love to the Hall Family. (Her parents were Athel and Marion Hall)
