We met Jimmy Dowell at Crossroads Store, North Garden many years ago. He always, always had a smile and would take time to have a conversation with everyone he would meet. We thank you, Jimmy Dowell, for making those that knew you feel special, appreciated, and loved.

Before he became the "waving man" in Covesville, Jim Down was a stalwart catcher on the Covesville Tigers and Astros baseball teams. Along with his brothers Lee and Lenny, he was noted and remembered as one of the most entertaining, exciting players in Central Virginia. Jim loved playing baseball, watching baseball and had a marvelous memory when it came to recalling players and games from days past. In Jim's words, "I have caught doubleheaders and still wanted to keep playing, Lord it seemed like that thing was over so quick, I just enjoyed it."
