James Jinks Obituary

James "Jim" Paul Jinks of Dyke, Va., went to the Promised Land on December 26, 2022, surrounded by his family at his daughter's home in Midlothian, Va. Jim was born on March 13, 1940, to the late Henry Joseph and Scerverna Fitzpatrick Jinks. He was preceded in death by his wife of nearly 50 years, Merium Knight Jinks; his son, Ivan Joseph Jinks; and his siblings, Alvin J. Callahan, Mary J. Blevins, John J. Jinks, Vernon F. Jinks, Robert C. Jinks, Naomi J. McClung, Thomas Nathan Jinks Jr., and Mamie J. Kelley.

Jim is survived by his daughter, Lisa J. Hastings and her husband, James, of Midlothian, Va.; two granddaughters, Jaimi M. Jinks of Midlothian, Va., and Angela R. Caldwell (Justin) of Beafort, S.C.; grandson, Joseph P. Hastings of Midlothian, Va.; two step grandsons, James Hastings III of Henrico, Va., and Lester "Eric" Hastings of N. Chesterfield, Va.; and one great-grandson, Jaxsun C. Shrewsbury of Midlothian, Va. He is also survived by his sister, Margie Jones Hampton and a host of nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

Jim graduated from Albemarle High School in Charlottesville, Va. He then attended Holmes Theological Seminary in Greenesville, S.C., and transferred to Lee College in Cleveland, Tenn. After raising his family and many years of service to multiple congregations Jim accomplished his life-long goal and earned his master's degree from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Va.

Jim devoted his life to sharing God's word with others. He retired from full time ministry at Mount Olivet Church of the Brethren in Timberville, Va. in 2003. However, he continued his ministry as the Pastor of Mt. Grove Chapel Church of the Brethren until his passing.

Jim was a dedicated caregiver to his wife during her battle with Pick's disease. He loved his family and his church family. He will be greatly missed by all.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Holy Memorial Gardens followed by a celebration of life at 2 p.m. at Nortonsville Church of God.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that a donation be made to a charity of one's choice.

An online guestbook is available at www.ryanfuneral.com

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and the members and friends of Mt. Grove Chapel at the passing of Pastor Jim Jinks. We enjoyed the many invitations he extended to our church and the fellowship when he and his church came to be with us for different occasions. Our prayers are with each of you at this time.

Mr. Jinks was one of the nicest men I knew. We enjoyed spending time with him and the good folks at Mt. Grove Chapel. He always made us feel welcomed. He made a delicious Apple cake that he shared on many church occasions. He will surely be missed in our church community. Our condolences to his family at this sad time. Virgil and Wanda Hensley

As a young girl, I remember visiting at reunions and I remember you coming down to visit us. The memories I have were of good times, when life was more simple. And I believe you made the best apple butter I’ve ever had. I’ll miss that, and I’ll miss you too. Sending love to the family during this difficult time
