John Gerding Obituary

In the early evening hours of Wednesday, December 27, 2006, and early days of his 90th year, John E. Gerding Sr. left his wife, Doris, daughter-in-law, Barbara, and his sons, John Jr. and David, for day one of his heavenly home.

He was a man of integrity. and he was courageous. He fought thyroid cancer and macular degeneration for many years to be with his family.

Being an Eagle Scout, a Purdue Engineer, Navy Lieutenant, and an engineer in New York State are his personal legacies.

Employed by General Electric, C&O Railroad, Peat Marwick Mitchell, and his own firm of John Gerding Associates or Management controls, is his business file, along with speaker at national meetings and articles for trade magazines.

He was past president of Cleveland ASME, and Prince of Peace Lutheran church and co-chair of St. Thomas Lutheran church building committee in Rocky River. Survivors are wife Doris; sister, Paulla of Carmel, Indiana; daughters, Linda (Craig) Frownfelter of Earlysville, Virginia, Maria Turner of Haymarket, Virginia, Celia (John, DDS) Galberry of Lakeland, Florida, Julia (Graham) Maners of Boca Raton, Florida; sons, John Jr. (Barbara) with home he lived this past year, and David (Jana) of Barboursville, Virginia; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at time of burial at Arlington Cemetery. The Reverend John Herman of Peace Lutheran Church will officiate.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the following of your choice in John's memory: Hospice of the Piedmont 2200 Old Ivy Road Charlottesville, VA 22903, Prince of Peace, 3355 Medina Road Medina, OH 44256, Peace Lutheran 1510 Broad Crossing Road, Charlottesville, VA 22911.
