John Parham Obituary

John White Parham, passed away on May 15, 2023, at his residence in Charlottesville. He was born on July 17, 1946, in Roanoke, Va., to the late Sidney Field Parham, Jr. and Louise White Barton Parham. He was also predeceased by his wife, Brenda Faye Parham.

He is survived by a brother, Sidney F. Parham, III; sister, Joan E. Parham (Larry Hammond); nieces, Sarah P. Lichty and Maggie Cichosz (Tim); four great nieces; sister-in-law, Bonnie Kirtley (Bruce); and godson, Ben Miller.

John was raised in Buena Vista and graduated from Parry McCluer High School in 1966. That fall he entered UVA until 1970 when he enlisted for two years in the U.S Army, serving as a Primary Line Mountain Communicator in Vietnam during the war. After the Army, he returned to UVA and received his bachelor's degree in history. He worked in management at the Homestead resort in Hot Springs, Va. for three years and came back to Charlottesville, Va. as a warehouse manager at Kirtley Distributing Company until he retired in 1997.

He married the love of his life, Brenda Faye Williams on August 9, 1986, and they lived in Faber, Va. for over 30 years. He kept busy by taking on a part-time job at Caul's grocery in North Garden where he met new and old friends. He loved to read, watch UVA sports and always enjoyed a good oyster roast. John will be missed greatly by his family, friends and neighbors.

A special thank you goes out to the staff at Morningside of Charlottesville for all their kindness and care towards John during his 9 months' stay there.

At this time, there will be no formal services. If you would like to honor the memory of John, please make a donation to Almost Home Pet Adoption Center, 29 Stagebridge Rd., Lovingston VA, 22949.
