Juliet Da Luiso Obituary

Mary Juliet Da Luiso, lovingly known by her family as "Momma Judy," departed this earthly realm on Tuesday, August 26th in Luck, Wisconsin. Born on April 5, 1938, in Hamburg, Arkansas to the late L.E. Hill and Hazel (Kemp) Hill, she carried within her a profound spirit of creativity and compassion that left an indelible mark on all who knew her.

A long-time resident of Charlottesville, Virginia, Juliet made her home there for many years until the age of 79, when she moved to Wisconsin to be near her daughter. Her life was a mosaic of artistic expression and soulful connection-a gifted poet, musician, artist, a nurturing presence.

From early childhood, Juliet was enchanted by the world of poetry. She first encountered William Blake's "The Lamb" as a young girl and was captivated by its spiritual resonance and lyrical beauty. This formative moment bloomed into a lifelong devotion to language and verse. Under her previous name, Judy Longley, she authored four volumes of poetry championing voices that explored the intimate terrain of family, personal reflection, spirituality, and the magical.

In addition to her literary gifts, Juliet dedicated her professional life to healing others. She worked at Region Ten Community Services in Charlottesville as a mental health therapist. After retirement, she embraced oil painting as a new passion and continued writing. Juliet always found joy in tending her herb garden and being immersed in nature's rhythms.

Those who knew Juliet were drawn to her enormous heart-an open harbor of kindness that offered safety and inspiration to so many. Her generosity of spirit extended far beyond the page; it lived in every conversation she had, every relationship she built.

Juliet is remembered with love by her son Michael Collins; daughter Brett Collins-Hansen (Derrick Hansen); stepdaughters Anna Byfield and Alicia Longley; grandchildren William Collins, Kayln Collins, and Gabriella Price. She was preceded in death by her brother Sonny Hill (Alice Hill) and the love of her life, John Longley Sr.

A graveside service will be held at Good Shepherd Church/ Hickory Hill, 960 Monacan Trail Road in Charlottesville on October 5th at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Church at PO Box 5021 Charlottesville, VA 22905.

May all that loved and cherished Juliet carry with them the heart she shared..... everything mortal burns with the singular purpose of light....JL.

Juliet (Judy) was a lovely and gracious woman. It was always a pleasure to see her and catch up on my visits to Charlottesville. We shared many memories of the earlier years which gave us many a laugh. Wish we had kept in touch but as the years went on, my trips to Virginia came to an end. Those memories will keep her in my heart. Best to the family, Bob Catterton

All my memories of Juliet occurred when she was known as Judy. Happy memories, always sharing her poetry, art, laughter and multiple views of the world at large. She was such a bright and vibrant woman, her spirit huge and fully engaged with the many lives she led. I remember the Judy of the sixties, seventies and and early eighties. How could I not? She was unforgettable...

So honored to have been her sister in law. I will miss our phone chats.
