Katherine Slosson Obituary

Katherine Morelle (Kennedy) Slosson (87) originally of Batesville, then later of Waynesboro Virginia, entered life eternal after a brief struggle with pancreatic cancer and dementia.

Morelle was born in 1936 to George and Alice Kennedy of Batesville. She graduated from Greenwood and Albemarle High School in 1955, and married Richard Mayo Slosson of Nelson County that same year.

Morelle and Richard would journey together through life for some 65 years, participating actively throughout all those years together as members of Batesville United Methodist Church, where Morelle was a life-long member. Morelle served for some 45 years as the treasurer of that congregation, and was active in all aspects of church life until her recent illness.

After raising her children, she worked at Blue Ridge Building Supply, and supported Richard in helping to design and build hundreds of homes in Virginia with R.D. Wade Builders. Together they built six successive homes for themselves throughout central Virginia in which they raised their family.

In addition to her parents George and Alice, Morelle was preceded in death by her loving husband Richard in 2021, and her brother Tommy in 1987.

Morelle and Richard are survived by their two happily married children, Rick Slosson and his wife Marylee (Martin) and Debbie Slosson Carlson and her husband Eric. Together they have three grandchildren, Scott Slosson (wife Sarah) of Phoenix Maryland, Megan Shorb (husband Alex) of Sparks Maryland, and Joshua Carlson of Goochland, VA. Morelle and Richard are great grandparents of James, Callie, and Bryce Slosson, and Charlie and Lucy Jane Shorb.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2024 at Batesville United Methodist Church, 6670 Plank Road, Batesville, VA 22924. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Charlottesville.

Those wishing to acknowledge Morelle's life may do so with flowers to Found and Sons Funeral Chapel, 10719 Courthouse Road, Fredericksburg, or monetary donations made to Batesville United Methodist Church, in care of the parsonage at 6959 Plank Road, Charlottesville VA 22903.

Shirley Day

April 27, 2024

Dear Family of Morelle Slosson. My husband, Bill and I were Governor's Way backdoor neighbors of Richard and Morelle, and enjoyed visiting with them. We moved to Naples, Fla in 2022, saying goodbye to Morelle after saying goodbye to Richard upon his passing. I am sorry to learn of your Mom's passing. She was a kind and dear lady, and did the best she could after her husband's passing. My Bill passed last year, and I have learned how difficult it is to be widows just like your Mom
in charge of all our husbands provided. May our loved ones rest in comfort and peace. I am sorry for your loss. Shirley Day
