Kenneth Boyd Obituary

Kenneth Carson "Ken" Boyd, age 75, of Southport, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

Ken was born on October 10, 1947, in Washington, D.C. He grew up loving to play basketball, which was curtailed by a car accident in high school. Ken had a robust career in the banking industry and in 1991 transformed that into a successful, independent financial planning firm. Ken married his loving wife Brenda, at the age of 34 and moved to Charlottesville, Va., where they lived for 36 years. Outside of work, Ken loved to go camping with his family, fishing, traveling, coaching his sons' sport teams, and mastering his grill. His greatest passion was serving his community. He was elected to the Albemarle County School Board where he served 4 years. In 2003 he was elected to the Albemarle county Board of Supervisors for 12 years and served as chair from 2007 to 2008. In 2018, he sold his financial planning business and retired to Southport, N.C. In retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the beach and with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Boyd; sister, Judith Hershey; three sons, Kenneth Carson Boyd Jr. and wife, Annette, of Richmond, Va., Patrick Donohue Boyd of Charleston, S.C., and Andrew Cory Boyd and wife, Nicole, of Charlotte, N.C.; a daughter, Kelley Hullett Lasley and husband, Darren, of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Joshua Carson Boyd, Kenneth Carson Boyd III, Anna Lane Lasley, Cora Lasley, Ethan Boyd, and Sadie Boyd; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Wayne Boyd and Trudy Donohue Boyd; and a brother, Robert Wayne Boyd Jr.

A celebration of his life will be held at Southport Presbyterian Church on March 18, 2023, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Community Home Care & Hospice (https://app.etapestry.com/onlineforms/GentivaFoundation/GHS.html) or to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.peacocknewnamwhite.com for the Boyd family.

Brenda, Ken was such a nice man. He was down to earth and always presented himself as a person who wanted to make things better for everyone. I talked to him several times always kind and never looked down on anyone. A true man willing to serve mankind. He will truly be missed. God blessed the family for lending him to us and the sacrifices you all made while he served us.

Ken was an outstanding gentleman. In a time when the school board/supervisors were being overrun with craziness, Ken was a calming, sensible voice that demanded thoughtful progress that expected responsibility, accountability, and a commitment to values. May God bless the family as they navigate this difficult time. Ken, you were a great one!

Ken Boyd was a real help to me while I served on the Commonwealth Transportation Board. He was open and candid in his comments. He shared information without reservation on transportation issues. He was always looking out for the people of Albemarle Conty and the whole Charlottesville area. He was a fine man and set a high standard for public service. Butch Davies
