Lillian Elizabeth Simpson Spencer, 100, of Lovingston, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2021, at The Laurels of Charlottesville.

She was born on June 30, 1921, in Nelson County, a daughter of the late Robert Morris Simpson and Maude Ora Wood Simpson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James Kenneth Spencer and Jesse Lois Spencer; and her siblings, Houston Simpson, Cecil Simpson, and Irene Simpson. She and Jesse Lois were happily married for 63 years.

Her father remarried and they had four children, Agnus Simpson Aistrop, Clinton Simpson, Billy Simpson, and Sylis Russell (Cotton) Simpson. She had two cousins that were like sisters to her, Beatrice Simpson Ashley and Elsie Simpson Norvell.

She was employed by DuPont prior to enrolling at Mayfair Beauty School in Lynchburg and started her career as a beautician working in Lynchburg, Charlottesville, and her own shop, Spencer's Beauty Shop in Lovingston with over 55 years of service and over 40 years working as the staff beautician at Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel. She was instructor of cosmetology at Nelson County High School for many years.

She is survived by her three lovely children, Larry, Lorice, and Keith; five grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Oak Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Bryan Painter officiating.

The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel, Lovingston (434-263-4097).

I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to the Spencer Family. Lillian was a great person and one of the best hair stylists and was always a fun person. She always had a smile on her face no matter where you saw her. God Bless the family during this time of loss.
