Mariann Buck Lynch
June 18, 1934 - December 31, 2020
Mariann Buck Lynch, 86, of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away and was welcomed into her eternal home on Thursday, December 31, 2020.
Those left to cherish her memory include her devoted husband of 64 years, Thomas C. Lynch; her four children and spouses, Suzy and Doug Wilson, Sherry and Mike Nedzbala, Annie and John Lichtenstein, and Tommy and Rebecca Lynch; her grandchildren, Laura and Ben Vahlberg, Bo and Kathryn Waldo, John Waldo, Zach Nedzbala, Hannah Nedzbala, Jake Lichtenstein, Elias Lynch, Andy Waldo, Noah Lichtenstein, Ethan Lynch, and Joe Lichtenstein; and her three great-grandchildren, Declan Waldo, May Vahlberg, and Edison Waldo; and many friends, in particular her "clothespin" group.
Mariann was born and raised in Tampa, Florida, and graduated from Randolph Macon Woman's College. Following Tom's Air Force career, she and Tom lived in Charlottesville, Virginia for over 40 years. They were active members at Christ Episcopal Church and enjoyed their tennis and golf community of friends at Farmington Country Club. In 2015 they moved to Roanoke, Virginia to be close to family. Mariann also enjoyed many happy times with family and friends at their house on Smith Mountain Lake.
Mariann, Mom, and Maisie was a strong, loving mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She loved life, and often exhorted others to remember to "have fun!" She was a wonderful helper, preferring to work "behind the scenes;" she could see the needs of others and would try to meet them.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Harmony Memory Center, Roanoke, Virginia for their loving, attentive care in her last years.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of Mariann's life will take place in spring 2021 at a private service. Online condolences may be shared with the family by visiting
