Maureen Patina Obituary

Maureen Somerville Patina, 67, of Gordonsville, died Thursday, March 30, 2006. She was a beloved wife, devoted mother and grandmother and cherished by all that befriended her. She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Annie Somerville of North Pomfret, Vermont and infant siblings James and Helen Somerville.

She is survived by her husband of 40 years, John P. Patina of Gordonsville; two sons, Michael A. Patina and his wife, Amy of Mechanicsville, Virginia; Kris Patina and his wife, Traci, of Charlotte, North Carolina; one daughter, Ann Patina Sheridan and her husband, Patrick, of Troy, Virginia; four grandchildren, Michael, Robert and Elizabeth Patina, all of Mechanicsville, Virginia; and Timothy Sheridan of Troy.

Mrs. Patina was an avid reader, gardener, animal lover and an extremely talented artist. She was an active volunteer in many community programs and a long time member of the Gordonsville Presbyterian Church. She also operated her own antique store and assisted in the initial opening of the Toliver House Restaurant. More than anything else, Maureen was known and loved throughout her life for her gracious humanity and exhilarating charm.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, 2006, at the Gordonsville Presbyterian Church in the Town of Gordonsville, conducted by the Rev. Tina Cox. Interment will be held in Woodstock, Vermont in a private ceremony by the family at a later time.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Gordonsville Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 574, Gordonsville, VA 22942 or The Virginia Bloodhound Search and Rescue Association, 526 Devil's Backbone Overlook, Stephenson, VA 22656.

Sheridan Funeral Home, Kents Store, Virginia is in charge of arrangements.
