Mavis Dudley Obituary

Mavis Jean Dudley

October 20, 1943 - January 10, 2025

Mavis Jean Dudley, 81, of Crozet, VA, unexpectedly went to be with her heavenly Father on January 10, 2025.

Jean was born to the late Johnny and Edith Morris on October 20, 1943, in Albemarle County, VA. She married Franklin L. Dudley of Troy, VA, on December 23, 1972, and resided in Albemarle Co., where she and Frank worked and raised their family. Jean was a loving spouse, mother, and grandmother adored by her family and friends. She had a big heart and was kind and generous, not only to her immediate family but to her extended family, neighbors, and friends. Jean enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, attending family reunions and gatherings, and visiting with friends and neighbors; she loved her flowers, shopping, and watching her sons' car racing through the years. She very seldom missed a family birthday party, celebration, or an evening of "Wheel of Fortune."

Jean is survived by her two sons, Robert Wayne (Lisbeth) Woodward of Roanoke, VA, and Michael Todd (Christy) Dudley of Palmyra, VA; seven grandchildren, Travis (Adena) Morris, Richard Allen (Casey Huckstep) Morris, Ashley Nicole (Andrew) Tucker, Kayla Brynn (Austin) Hannabass, Cody Alexander Woodward, Jordon Tyler Dudley, and Jason Scott Dudley; seven great-grandchildren, Joshua Liam and Savannah Grace Tucker, Emmaline Belle, Sawyer Layne Lewis, and Oliver Brooks Hannabass; and Kyliegh Michale and Jamie Lynn Morris; siblings, Della Houchens, Ray (Juanita) Morris, Joyce A. Morris, Muriel Simpson, John "Butch" (Jo Ann) Morris; and many nephews and nieces. Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Lyle Dudley; a son, Richard Allen Morris; siblings, Delmar E. Morris and Doris M. Roach; and brothers-in-law, William A. Roach and Curtis Morris.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 19, 2025, from 3 to 5 p.m., at Batten Funeral Home in Ruckersville, VA.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 12:30 p.m., at Batten Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are entrusted to Batten Funeral Home of Ruckersville, VA.

We have set up an online guestbook at www.battenfuneral.com for those who wish to share their memories of Jean or express their condolences. Your words will be a source of comfort and strength for the family during this time.

Jean was a good friend to my mother, Gloria Rickard, and to me. I would always enjoy her visits and she would often stop by to see me after my mother passed away. We always exchanged Christmas cards and I received hers this past Christmas. I was shocked and so sad to read of her death. My sympathy to each of her family members.
