Jerry authored or co-authored countless publications and made numerous presentations throughout his career. Those of which he was particularly proud are:-Foreign Relations Series (River Forest Illinois: Laidlaw Brothers, Incorporated, 1966-69; eleven titles in the series)-It's Your ChoiceOr Is It? With Neil Arneson, Chester Wrzos and James Vandelly (Richmond, Virginia: Virginia Office of Emergency and Energy Services, 1984). They were together through several moves and career changes, but their bond never wavered and Joan was beside him every step of the way, creating their home and entertaining students and colleagues. Their joint dedication to teaching and the University of Virginia was honored in the spring of 2016 with the naming of the Jerry and Joan Moore Teacher Education Classroom (room 137) in the Curry School of Education.Jerry demonstrated his love for his family and friends in everything he said and did. He and Joan loved to go on adventures and travel both in the US and abroad, finding friends wherever they went. They took each of their grandchildren on a trip "out West" for their high school graduations. The trips were especially memorable and unique because Jerry planned each trip and took into account what would interest that grandchild the most. Emily got to spend more time in the Northwest and saw a lot of prairie dogs from the RV. Jessie and Jeffrey got to have their trip together and flew to Las Vegas and then drove around the Southwest. Brian also got to fly to Las Vegas and particularly enjoyed seeing the Grand Canyon. Each year Jerry and Joan would celebrate Christmas and New Year's with the family and then would go to their "home away from home" on Chokoloskee Island in Florida. They spent 30 winters in Florida where they made many lasting friendships.Jerry was an avid bridge player and he and Joan spent countless happy hours playing with friends. Jerry particularly cherished his long bridge partnership with Bob Mustoe. As Jerry would say, "I've had a good run." He was able to accomplish a lot in his 84 years on Earth and definitely has left an impression. He tried to live his life showing everyone his love and respect for not only family and friends, but also for everyone he encountered. He showed us how to live with joy, love, and a glass not only half full but overflowing!A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016, from 7until 9p.m. at Teague Funeral Home.In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank, Charlottesville Salvation Army, or Hospice of the Piedmont. The family thanks the staffs of the University of Virginia Hospital and Hospice of the Piedmont for their excellent care.
