Pamela Burrett Obituary
Pamela Anne (Clarke) Burrett
January 17, 1944 - October 26, 2025
Born January 17, 1944, in Bowling Green, Ky., Pam passed away peacefully on October 26, 2025, in Charlottesville, Va., after living gracefully and joyfully with dementia. Pam called many places home - Lexington, Ky., Chicago, Ill., Cleveland, Ohio, Albany, N.Y., and Pittsburgh, Pa. - before retiring to Charlottesville to be closer to her sister. A dedicated educator, Pam taught English as a Second Language (ESL) after raising her family and remained deeply connected to many of her students. Passionate about Asian culture, she traveled widely through teacher programs and visited Mongolia, Vietnam, Japan, and her favorite destination, China. In Pittsburgh, Pam was active in the community as president of both the Mount Lebanon Nature Conservancy and the Mount Lebanon PTA. She loved gardening, birdwatching, Tai Chi, and studying Chinese language and culture. Pam was a faithful member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and lived her values through service to others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken Burrett; parents, Joe Clarke and Frances Pemberton; and her aunt and uncle, Margaret "Brucie" and Robert "Bobby" Pemberton Jr. She is survived by her daughters Nicki McCain and Rebecca Burrett; sons-in-law Dan McCain and Scott DeGraw; sister Pat (Mike) Adelman; and granddaughters Caroline and Evelyn McCain. Pam believed that seeing the world was one of the best ways to learn and appreciate other cultures, a passion she passed on to her daughters.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Linden House and Sisters Who Care for their devotion and compassion, which allowed Pam to live her final years with dignity and laughter. A visitation for Pam will be on Thursday October 30, 2025 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Teague Funeral Service, 2260 Ivy Road, Charlottesville, Va. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday October 31, 2025 at 12:15 p.m. at Church of the Incarnation, 1465 Incarnation Drive, Charlottesville, Va. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle, the Mount Lebanon Nature Conservancy, or the International Rescue Committee.
