Dr. Paul Cole Wilkins, age 78, of Charlottesville, passed away on Thursday, November 13, 2025. Dr. Wilkins, a medical psychiatrist, had been in practice in Charlottesville since 1976. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Yale University in 1969, distinguishing himself by winning the Albert Angier award in Psychology the same year. Afterwards, as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, he earned his Doctor of Medicine at UVA in 1973, followed by completing his residency in psychiatry at UVA in 1976. Dr. Paul Wilkins was born on August 21, 1947, in Buffalo, New York. Paul was a caring and compassionate human being who dedicated his life to helping other people. While he excelled as a psychiatrist, his true calling in life was that of a father and grandfather. He loved nothing more than spending time with his son, followed by his two grandsons. Dr. Wilkins died peacefully at the Hospice of the Piedmont due to complications sustained from a stroke two weeks prior. He is survived by the mother of his child, Wenche L. Wilkins; his son, Jon C. Wilkins; and his two grandsons, Cole W. Wilkins and Clayton T. Wilkins, all of Charlottesville, VA. Paul is also survived by his sibling, Joan E. Wilkins; and her son, Lyle M. Swann of Winston-Salem, NC. Every Christmas, one of Paul's presents to his family was the donation of livestock made in their name to a family in need via Heifer International. Respecting Paul's wishes, in lieu of flowers or other contributions, please instead send any donations to Heifer International on behalf of his memory.

I knew Paul as both a colleague and fellow poker player. I always enjoyed his humor. It has been a real gift to have him in my life. We stopped having our poker games when Covid came. They had been going since the early 70s. I still have so many fond memories. Rest in peace Paul love,Lew Weber

Dr. Wilkins was not only a beloved psychiatrist but also a cherished friend. Over the nearly 30 years that I knew him, our relationship evolved from that of doctor and patient to a deep and meaningful friendship. Dr. Wilkins touched countless lives with his dedication, warmth, and profound understanding. What made him truly remarkable was how he seamlessly transitioned from being a dedicated psychiatrist to a dear and trusted friend, leaving a lasting impact on my life and on everyone who knew him.
Dr. Wilkins will always be remembered for the compassion and support he offered, and for the genuine friendship that grew over the years.
