Wayne Miller Preddy, 70, of Honah Lee Farm, Gordonsville, Va. died at his residence on Tuesday, February 23, 2016. Born October 19, 1945, in Charlottesville, Va. he was the son of the late Russell M. Preddy, and Bernice Newman Preddy.Wayne spent his early career volunteering in service to others. He was a firefrighter with the District of Columbia fire department and retired as a Captain after 20 years of service. He then spent the rest of his life farming and tinkering at the farm. He was a member of the Orange Baptist Church, the American Legion Post 156, and the Retired Firefighters Association.He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vera D. Preddy of Gordonsville; three sons, William Mason Preddy of Washington, D.C., Eric W. Hopwood and wife, Brandy of Gordonsville, and Todd A. Hopwood and wife, Carrie of Gordonsville; two grandchildren, Erika Noel Hopwood, and Cody W. Hopwood; sister, Lillian Russell "Boots" Kinzie and husband, Elbert of Christiansburg; special relatives, Garland L. Preddy of Rehobeth Beach, Del., Karen S. Sandrock of Baltimore, and Teeni L. Rosen and husband, Bob of Maryland, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Place, Charlottesville, VA 22911, Orange Volunteer Fire Co,. P.O. Box 367, Orange, VA 22960, or the Gordonsville Volunteer Fire Co., P.O. Box 297, Gordonsville, VA 22942. Preddy Funeral Home of Orange is assisting the family.
