Roy Mason Shifflett Roy Mason Shifflett, 96, of Stanardsville, Virginia, passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2013, at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born on May 4, 1916, in Pirkey, Virginia, Greene County, to the late Charles and Quickie Shifflett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret; and brothers, Allen, Russell, Randolph, Clarence and Elbert. His love for his family was the most important thing to him. He is survived by his wife of 74 years, Nettie Shifflett of Stanardsville; and his children, Roger Shifflett and his wife, Doris, of Ruckersville, Danny Shifflett and his wife, Patti, of Ruckersville, Dale Shifflett and his wife, Phyllis, Angie Shifflett and her husband, Irvin, of Stanardsville and Diane Drew and her husband, Jerry, of Elkwood. Additional survivors include his grandchildren, Johnny, Angela, Adam, Tonya, Jeremy, Dana, Kyle and Kristen; and his great- grandchildren, Austin, Mitchell, James, Gabe and Nora. He is also survived by his dearly loved brother, Herbert Shifflett of South River; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. Roy was well known throughout the community for his love of people, his bluegrass music and his huge gardens that he shared. Roy worked on the farm at the Blue Ridge School in the early years. Later he worked for Frank Lamb as a carpenter for 30 years. The family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail Ruckersville, VA 22968. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2013, at Evergreen Church of the Brethren in Dyke, Virginia, with the Reverend C.C. Kurtz and Pastor Wendell Lamb officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Evergreene Nursing Care Center and staff and to the doctors and nurses of Martha Jefferson Hospital for the care they gave our Dad.
