Leona M. Shuey STAUNTON - Leona "Billie" (Michael) Shuey, 85, widow of Marion Edward Shuey of Middlebrook Road, passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, at her residence. Mrs. Shuey was born on May 1, 1928, in Harrisonburg, a daughter of the late Hatch and Mattie (Shifflett) Michael. Billie was a member of Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church. She worked for the Clifton Forge/Waynesboro Telephone Company for many years before becoming a full time farmer's wife who supported her husband throughout his farming career. Billie enjoyed gardening, growing beautiful flowers and she was a wonderful mother, homemaker and a great cook. Mrs. Shuey was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are two sons, Ronald E. Shuey and wife, Linda Y., of Crozet, and Gary Shuey and wife, Nannette M., of Staunton; a granddaughter, Wendy Shuey of Taos, New Mexico; two grandsons, Dean Shuey of Summerville, South Carolina, and Samuel Shuey of Crozet; and two great-granddaughters, Lea Shuey of Summerville, South Carolina, and Zoe Shuey of Staunton. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 13, 2014, at Coffman Funeral Home and Crematory. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, February 14, 2014, in Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church Cemetery by Pastor JoAnn Bunn. Honorary pallbearers will be her two grandsons, Dean Shuey and Samuel Shuey, and Ben Shuey, Todd Wilmore, Ed Powell and John Eicholtz. It is suggested those desiring make memorial contributions to the Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 334 Mt. Tabor Road, Staunton, VA 24401; or the American Cancer Society, 420 Neff Avenue, Suite 210, Harrisonburg, VA 22801. The family would like to thank Dr. John Marsh and his staff, Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah and her care givers, Linda Harris, Kristol Wilkerson, Letty Bostic, Kim Snider, Rhonda Wilmore and Frances Coffey for the special care given to Billie during her illness.
