Lee Stone, of Charlottesville, Va., died unexpectedly on Monday, May 2, 2016.Lee was born in Washington, D.C., on July 24, 1963. He was one of three much loved adopted children of the late Paul and Dorothy Stone. He grew up in Sterling, Va. Lee was disabled at the age of 9 as a result of surgeries to remove a benign brain tumor. He received Special Education in Loudoun County, Haddonfield, N.J., and at the Woodrow Wilson School in Fishersville.Due to the determination of his mother, Lee received excellent medical care and always exceeded any limitation that was placed on him. His family never gave up on him and he never gave up on himself. "I can't" were words he never spoke and he rose to any challenge that was in his way. After time spent in a sheltered workshop, Lee entered the workforce, first at UVA Medical Center and later as a cashier at Sears at Fashion Square Mall. Lee was known as an excellent employee who always came ready to work and gave 100% to his job. Lee participated in Special Olympics for many years, with bowling being his favorite sport. He won many medals and was able to compete at the state level several times. Lee also entertained at Special Olympics events, singing the National Anthem or his favorite Elvis Presley song.Lee leaves many behind who will always cherish his memory. He is survived by his sisters, Robin Stone (Mark Luensmann) of Manchester, Iowa, and Kimberly Kincaid of McConnelsville, Ohio; nieces, Emilee, Aimee Kincaid and Katie Mitchell; nephews, Matthew and Daniel Mitchell; his uncle and aunt, John and Karen Marshall; special cousins, John Marshall, and Rebecca Moreland; and close friends, Ronnie and LaNeta Beach, and John and Linda Shanton. He also leaves behind his special friend, Liz Wisbauer and her mother, Ellen.A memorial service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016, at the Church of the Incarnation in Charlottesville.In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Special Olympics Area 3, 21 Southgate Ct., Ste. 103, Harrisonburg, VA22801.Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
