Henry Thomas Waller Sr., 89, departed this life on September 16, 2018, following an extended illness. He was born on September 18, 1928, to Flossie Kyles Waller and John Gilmore Waller in Ivy, Virginia. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Mount Calvary Baptist Church. Henry was an active member, serving in the Diaconate, Trustees and Missionary ministries. He was also a member of the Men's Choir. Henry was a proud graduate of Jackson P. Burley High school. He served 3 years in the U.S. Airforce during World War II, with tours of duty in Germany and Texas. He was employed by the University of Virginia Medical Center for over 40 years. Following his retirement, he was employed by JAUNT, Inc. Henry was a kind and gentle family man who understood the importance of giving to his church, family, and community. He loved traveling and spending time with his grandchildren, who cherished every moment. He will also be remembered for giving of himself and of his resources to help others. Henry will forever be cherished by his beloved wife of 66 years, Lelia Armstead Waller; son, Henry Waller Jr. of Dale City, Va.; daughter, Yvonne Wilkins and husband, Angelo of Bowie, Md.; three grandsons, Kareem Waller of Springfield, Va., Andre Waller of Dale City, Va., and Patrick Waller of Woodbridge, Va.; three granddaughters, Zina Simpkins and husband, Michael, of Glen Burne, Md., Jade Wilkins and Ivy Wilkins, both of Laurel, Md.; great-grandson, Michael Simpkins III; sister-in-law, Francina Fleming and husband, James, of Orlando, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends. Homegoing services will be held at 12 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2018, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, the Reverend Loretta Wyatt will deliver the eulogy.
