William Jefferies Obituary
William McK. Jefferies, 91, of St. Marys, Georgia, died Saturday,April 21, 2007, in Magnolia Manor on St. Simons Island, Georgia.
He was a native of Richmond, Virginia and had been a resident of St.Marys three years.
He was a graduate of John Marshall High School in Richmond, earned his B. A. Degree from Hamden-Sydney College and M. D. degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville. He was a veteran of the World War II serving as a Flight Surgeon in the United States Army Air Corps.
He was a Physician specializing in Endocrinology in the Cleveland, Ohio area then served as Clinical Professor at the University of Virginia School of Medicine from 1993 until his retirement.
He was author or co-author of 40 papers in Clinical or Research Medical Journals. He was Author of "Safe uses of Cortisone/Cortisol" doing his chief research in cortisol and stress. He was a former member of numerous professional organizations and was a member of St. Marys United Methodist Church.
Dr. Jefferies is survived by his wife, Lucy P. Jefferies of St. Marys and her daughter, Mary Maarbjerg of Stamford, Conneticu; a daughter, Leslie M. Jefferies of Summerville, South Carolina; three sons, Richard M. Jefferies of Ashburn, Virginia, Scott M. Jefferies of Marietta, and C. J. Jefferies of Jekyll Island; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held 2 p. m. Wednesday, April 25, 2007, in the St. Marys United Methodist Church with the Reverend Randy J. Mosley officiating..
