Charles Anthony Ahto
Madison - Charles Anthony Ahto, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away on August 26, 2021 peacefully at home in Florham Park, New Jersey surrounded by his family. Charles was a lifelong resident of the communities of Madison and Florham Park as well as Lake Wallenpaupack, Pennsylvania, where he enjoyed time with his family at their lake home.
Born in Jersey City, Charlie moved to Madison, then to Florham Park 36 years ago. He graduated Madison High School in 1951 and attended Lehigh University from 1951-1953 before proudly serving in the United States Army in Austria post World War II.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Charlie worked for the Edison Storage Battery Division in West Orange. Before his retirement in 1997, Charlie was the President of T.F.I. (Tape Film Industries) in New York City. Charlie was an active member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and served as Conference Vice President.
Charlie enjoyed time with his family above all else. He was his happiest eating a good meal with his family at their home on Lake Wallenpaupack. There, he enjoyed boating, cooking, and quality time with those around him.
A devout Catholic, Charlie was a parishioner of Holy Family Church in Florham Park and St. Vincent Martyr Church in Madison.
He is survived by his wife, Candace "Candi" (O'Brion) Ahto, and his children, Laura Ahto, Cheryl Ahto, Charles W. Ahto and his wife, Dianne, and Kimberly (Ahto) Bush and her husband, David. He was a beloved grandfather to his cherished grandchildren, Margaret Ahto, Bradley Ahto, Dax Bush, and Luc Bush. He is also survived by his brother, The Honorable Salem V. Ahto. Charles was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Anne (Clarken) Ahto (1985).
Charlie was a loving husband, amazing father, adored grandfather, and a devoted brother who will be deeply missed.
Family and friends are welcome to gather on Monday, August 30, 2021, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Burroughs, Kohr & Dangler Funeral Home, 106 Main Street, Madison. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Charlie on Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Church, 1 Lloyd Avenue, Florham Park. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
