James Timmins Obituary
Morristown - James Michael Timmins died on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Morristown Medical Center. He was 81.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, to the late James and Irene Timmins, he was raised in Rockaway Borough by his late uncle and aunt, Sam and Rose Menzak. He moved to Morristown in 1995.
Mr. Timmins was a graduate Morris Hills High School, Class of 1956, where he played football and scored the first touchdown in the school's history. He went on to serve in the US Marine Corps during peacetime.
Mr. Timmins was employed by the US Postal Service as a letter carrier in Rockaway for 23 years prior to retiring. He was a parishioner of St. Bernard's Church and a volunteer at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville.
He was predeceased by two sisters, Irene Leo and Joan Cabry. He is survived by three children: James R. (& Denise) Timmins, Beth Vivian and Michael Timmins; the mother of his children, Rose Talmadge; a sister, Mary Riece; three grandchildren: Danielle (& Dan) Finkle, Katie Timmins, and James R. (fiancée, Alex) Timmins, Jr.; and three great-grandchildren, Colton James and Hunter Lukas Timmins, and Harper Rose Finkle.
Funeral services will begin on Monday, July 2 at 9:00 AM from the Whitham-Kanapaux Funeral Home, 20 Keller Ave, Rockaway to a funeral Mass at St. Bernard's Church, 21 St. Bernard's Rd, Wharton at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Locust Hill Cemetery, Dover. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, July 1 from 2:00 - 6:00PM at the funeral home. Messages of condolence may be sent to: RockawayFuneral.com
