John Cassidy Obituary

John J. Cassidy, of Chatham Township passed away at Overlook Hospital on Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011. A Funeral Service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 4 Madison Ave, Madison, on Friday, January 28th at 11:30 am. Interment is private. Friends are invited to visit at Wm. A. Bradley & Son Funeral Home, 345 Main St, Chatham on Thursday from 7-9pm. For further information or to send a message of condolence, go to www.bradleyfuneralhomes.com.

Born and raised in New York City, John moved to Chatham in 1974. He graduated from Stuyvesant High School, one of the few competitive schools for outstanding academic students and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Hofstra University. John played varsity baseball and basketball in both high school and college. Because he was a catcher with a high batting average, he was offered a contract with the Philadelphia Phillies. During WWII, John served as a Quarter Master 3rd class in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service. He was manager of Treasury Services for Allied Signal (now Honeywell) in Morristown. Prior to that, he was manager of accounting for United States Life Insurance in New York City. John served as treasurer for The Private School Scholarship Program in New York City which helped outstanding students from lower income levels. He was a member of the Madison Golf Club, Noe Pond, and the Hillsboro Club in Florida.

John is survived by his wife, Anne "Midge" and many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, donations in John's memory may be made to either Grace Episcopal Church or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Donor Services, PO Box 4072, Pittsfield, MA 01202.

Dearest Midge
I don't know if you remember me but I read in the paper today of John's passing. I am so very sorry for your loss.
It was always a pleasure to be in your company at Debbie & Fred's.
I will remember John and you in my prayers!!!
