John Hagens Obituary

John A. Hagens

AGE: 89 • Montville

John A. Hagens died Saturday afternoon, Dec. 21, 2013 at St. Clare's Hospital in Denville. He was 89. Born in Greenville, SC, Mr. Hagens was raised in Madison and lived in Lake Hiawatha for 30 years before moving to the Pine Brook Section of Montville in 2009. Mr. Hagens served in the United States Army Calvary during World War II. He was stationed in Italy. He had worked as an oil burner repairman for Petro Oil in Roseland, retiring in 1978. Previously, he had worked as a mason in Fairfield. Mr. Hagens had been a Madison High School Track All-Star and a State Medalist in Track and Field. He was also an amateur boxer while in the Army. He was a member of the American Legion Post 249 in Lake Hiawatha.

Preceded in death by his wife, Irma (nee Baldi) in 2006, and his siblings, William Hagens and Lucille Brown, he is survived by his five children, Shirley Brydie of Arizona, Robert Hagens and his wife Patricia of Kenvil, Anthony Hagens of Rockaway, Teresa Woodward and her husband Michael of Pine Brook and Dina Hagens of California; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to call this evening, Monday, Dec. 23, 7-9pm at the S.J. Priola Parsippany Funeral Service, 60 North Beverwyck Rd., Lake Hiawatha (973-335-4700). The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 24, 9:30am at St. Peter the Apostle R.C. Church, Parsippany. Private cremation will follow. For further info please see www.parsippanyfuneral.com.
